Happy Monday! I attended my first ever Galette de Rois party this past weekend. Friends hosted the oh-so French fête, breaking out champagne and three large, buttery Galette de Rois. Traditionally, l'Epiphanie holiday is celebrated January 6th, but Saturday afternoon made more sense for everyone's schedule. The galettes (equipped with gold paper crowns for the winner!) were from Financier, flaky shells harboring a sweet almond filling of frangipane. It looks pretty dense and heavy at first, but I found myself eating three slices throughout the afternoon. No problem. Must have been the champagne. Alas, I was not the recipient of la fève, the little figurine tucked inside the lucky slice, but still plan to make 2011 fantastic ^_^ Cheers to a good week!
